Problem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Leading up to competition season, the Melbourne Bowling Club decided to deal with the issues of inadequate lighting across their bowling greens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After 20 years of using mercury-vapour lights, the MBC had to deal with a lighting upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary objective was to increase lighting performance, and reduce cost of operation. Mercury-vapour lights consume a lot of power and require replacement far more often than modern LED lights do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forest Yiray Sports Lighting was engaged in designing and supplying LED lights for their main competition bowling green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two lights per pole in each corner (rather than 1 x OSL2 dual light) were chosen to enable focused lighting onto main lighted areas and reduce light spillage into other areas. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

FYSL Solution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The existing 10m light poles were positioned on the four corners of the bowling green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out lighting engineer reviewed the pole positions bowling green lighting requirements, other constraints and possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To give uniform coverage from the existing poles, two FYSL OSL1 lights were fitted to each pole. The lights used were Forest Yiray Outdoor Sporting Light 600W with matching LED Driver and standard mounting brackets (model PY-OSL1-600). P30 optics were installed to give the required spread. Rotatable visors were fitted to each light. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As electrical and mechanical installation is simple with these new lights, MBC engaged their own electricians to undertake the installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outcome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Performance was assessed by the MBC and categorically approved of. These new LED lights vastly superior to the old mercury-vapour lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Light spill and glare was minimal and with negligible impact on neighbours. Any reaming light spill into inappropriate areas or neighbours was easily eliminated by rotation and visor adjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
